Bike Recycle Vermont (BRV) is a community bike shop in Burlingtons Old North End which aims to provide sustainable and healthy transportation to low-income individuals. BRV refurbishes donated bicycles and distributes them to resettled refugees, low-income teens, those recently released from prison, and the areas homeless population. BRV also works with at-risk youth, along with students from numerous Chittenden county schools, teaching bike repair and life skills. With a small staff, BRV manages to work with numerous young people and has distributed over three hundred bikes in 2007. With only two employees, volunteers play a vital role in the organization. BRVs co-founder and volunteer Ron Manganiello, was recently awarded the United Ways prestigious Hometown Hero award for his dedicated work on behalf of the organization.
