TICONDEROGA - The Tiny Tim Christmas Wish Program will get some help from area musicians.
The annual Tiny Tim concert will be held Friday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ticonderoga.
The vent attracts locals musicians who perform to raise money for the Tiny Tim Christmas Wish Program, which has provided holiday gifts to children the past 30 years.
This year's concert will feature the Community Band as well as musicians from Ticonderoga High School and Ti Middle School. Taking part will be the high school and middle school choruses, the Sentinel Big band, the Night Shadows and the Trebled Voices.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will be given to the Tiny Tim Program.
The Tiny Tim program started in 1980 when a group of Ticonderoga Central School teachers realized the need. The program grew to the point the teachers could no longer handle the demand and the program was turned over to a group of local volunteers.
Helen Gibbs became Tiny Tim chairwoman in 1995 and still serves in that capacity.
There have been a lot of changes during the years.
Tiny Tim now serves about 75 families and nearly 200 children each holiday season.
It costs more than $6,000 a year to operate the Tiny Tim program, Gibbs said.
The confidential program decides who gets holiday help using the school's free and reduced lunch income guidelines. Parents must complete applications. That application includes questions about the children in the homes, such as clothing sizes and gender.
This year the Community Band will be under the direction of Dale Quesnel III, a 14-year-old Ti student.
Playing in the Community Band will be Malinda Chapman, Gillian Wright, Julianne Davis, Caroline Burns, Carly Pinkowski, Paige Hughes and Katherine Towne on flute;
Kristen Dickerson on violin;
Doug Buckland, Claire Burns, Alaina Bevilacqua and Susan Ward on clarinet;
McKenzie Strum and Shelby Turner on bass clarinet;
Chris Burns, Skyler Gilbert and Dakota Gilbert on alto sax;
Riley Chapman on tenor sax;
John Porter, Glen Chapman, Karney manning, Collin Burns and John Cook on trumpet;
Marcus Moser and Colvin Chapman on trombone; and
Wendy Davis, Kevin Densmore, Tyler Morse and Caleb Burns on percussion.
