The Sagamore Resort of Bolton Landing received a tribute Oct. 17 from Gov. Cuomo, in recognition of its selection as one of the top 20 resorts in northeastern U.S. by readers of the upscale Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
Gov. Cuomo offered his congratulations Thursday Oct. 17 on the selection of The Sagamore Resort of Bolton Landing and four other hotels in the state that were chosen this week for a top national award.
The five properties were among Conde Naste Traveler Magazine’s “Top 20 Resorts in the Northeast,” chosen by the prestigious publication’s upscale readers.
The annual awards include not only resorts, but hotels, islands, cities, cruises, and airlines.
This award follows another recent honor garnered by the famed Sagamore. Some time ago, it was named “one of America’s best lake hotels” by Travel & Leisure magazine.
“This year’s Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards show that avid travelers are choosing Upstate New York as a top destination to stay and vacation,” Cuomo said in a prepared statement. “This recognition of the world-class accommodations in the Adirondacks and the Catskills is well deserved.”
In addition to the Sagamore, New York State’s winners of the Reader’s Choice Awards are Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa, Lake Placid; Lake Placid Lodge; Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz; and Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid.
Gov. Cuomo’s publicists note that New York offers both residents and visitors an abundance of destinations, activities, and new experiences.
“From quirky attractions, quaint towns, historic sites and beautiful beaches to a plethora of outdoor activities, year-round festivals and major events, the Empire State is the destination for all things travel,” the governor’s press released stated.
As the fifth largest employment sector in New York, tourism supported 714,222 jobs and generated $17.39 billion in wages in 2012. In 2011 alone, the Empire State hosted 202 million total visitors, an 8.3 percent increase from the year before, and 76.2 million overnight visitors.
