Champlain Valley Christian School faculty and staff recognized Kendra Powers as Student of the Month. Kendra, a senior, is the daughter of Kevin and Carla Powers of East Middlebury. She has two older sisters, Kirsten Taylor and Kelli Powers. Her younger brother, Casey, is in grade 7 at CVCS.
Kendra has achieved academic High Honors and Honors for the past three years. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Kendra is the recipient of a $44,000 merit scholarship from Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina, where she has been accepted to attend next fall. Kendra is also considering Champlain College, where she would like to major in radiography.
Kendra has been a member of the CVCS soccer and basketball teams. During her junior year, she helped coach the 5th and 6th grade basketball team when she was not busy at her own practice. Kendra is the student council senior class representative, a yearbook member, and has performed wonderfully in several school plays. Outside of school, she enjoys playing tennis, snowboarding, culinary arts, and taking a course at the Community College of Vermont.
Kendra works as a dining room server at the Lodge at Otter Creek. She has also been involved in many hours of community service at the Your Turn Resale Shoppe, Porter Hospital Nursing Home, volunteering in the grade K-2 classroom, World Vision 30 Hour Famine, babysitting, and humanitarian projects with Work Camp New England.
Kendra attends the Forestdale Wesleyan Church. She has assisted with various churches' Vacation Bible School programs, mission trips, and Operation Christmas Child. The Bible verse that Kendra has chosen as a guide for herself is Philippians 2:3, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves."
