HINESBURG The Redhawks football squad suffered a tough loss last week, as did the field hockey team, but the boys soccer team more than made up for it as they ruined a perfect record for Essex in high school sports action.
North Country running back Aaron Lafluer piled up an eye-popping 278 rushing yards on 48 carries and scored two touchdowns to help put NCU on top 44-28 over CVU.
With the Friday night lights shining bright, CVU quarterback Mark Liebert was effective throwing for close to 200 yards and three touchdowns, two to Mark Talley and one more to Stephen Hamel.
NCU quarterback Aaron Grondin scored a long rushing touchdown in the third quarter to push the lead to 38-13. North Country moves to 3-3 with the victory and CVU falls to 3-3 with the loss.
In Essex, Evan Karge scored off a pass from Chris Beaton with eight minutes left in the game to seal a 2-0 victory for CVU. Micah Rose scored the first goal as the first half of play came to a close.
CVUs record is now 10-0-1 after beating previously undefeated Essex (10-1).
Mount Abraham won a close one after fending off the Redhawks 2-1 in field hockey action. Hannah Stowell netted the lone goal for CVU.
