CROWNPOINT - In an attempt to improve communication, Crown Point departments are now required to give reports at each town board meeting.
"We have people come to meetings and ask questions that we sometimes just can't answer," Supervisor Bethany Kosmider said. "Sometimes departments just don't keep us informed."
Kosmider would like department heads to attend the town board meetings to make their reports. That way they are available to answer questions from the community during the public comments portion of each meeting.
If department heads are unavailable to attend the meeting, Kosmider has asked them to submit written reports.
"We need better communication at times," the supervisor said. "This can help us."
Kosmider has asked for the monthly updates from elected department heads including herself, the town clerk, the highway superintendent, the town justice and the assessors.
She also asked for reports from appointed department heads including the water and sewer superintendent, maintenance chief, the town historian, town health officer, dog control officer and youth commission.
Reports from town committees such as the Memorial Day, budget reduction panel, events and others have also been asked for monthly reports.
Kosmider realizes the reports require some extra work from department heads, but it comes with the job.
"We work for the people of Crown Point," she said. "They have a right to know what's going on and to ask questions of officials."
