ROUSES POINT - If the children are too excited for Easter to arrive and can't wait one more week, Dodge Memorial Library might be able to help.
The library will host its first-ever Easter Egg Hunt next Saturday, April 4, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The event was put together by the library's Friends of the Library to encourage more people to see what Dodge Memorial has to offer.
"[The Friends of the Library] wanted to obviously encourage more people to come to the library and to come inside and see all the new offerings," explained Mandie Bechard, a library board trustee and liaison between the library and Friends of the Library. "But, also to really offer something up for children in the community."
Bechard added there aren't many events like this in the community for children and there are no other egg hunts in the area.
For the event, the library's lawn will be dotted with nearly 600 eggs full of candy and stickers.
"Cornerstone [Drug and Gift] here in town was able to donate a lot of the candy for th eggs," Bechard said. "That was really helpful because the Friends of the Library doesn't have a lot of funds."
Though the hunt will be outdoors, there will be fun inside the library as well.
"Inside, we plan to have some baked goods and things. Kind of like an open house inside the library afterwards," said Bechard.
"We really just want to get the children really familiar with coming to the library," she added. "So, the main goal for these type of activities, although they may not seem library related, it's just to get the kids to come out to the library, to see what it's all about; to have fun."
Children will be split up by age groups and sent to different "hunting areas on the lawn," Bechard explained. They will be divided into ages 1-2, 3-5, and 5 and older. The event is free and each child should bring their own Easter basket.
"We want to bring kids out to the library, get them to come to the hunt, and then come inside and check out a book and look around," said Bechard.
