On Wednesday, Aug.14, at approximately 8:45 p.m., New York State Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle/pedestrian collision on State Route 9N in the town of Elizabethtown.
Jonathan D. Lessard, age 28, of Fairhaven, Vermont, was traveling southbound on State Route 9N in Elizabethtown when his vehicle struck Lenore Sicola, 15, of Elizabethtown.
Prior to the collision Sicola was riding a skateboard traveling southbound State Route 9N. Elizabethtown EMS responded to the scene and transported Sicola to Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont for treatment of head injuries. Sicola is currently in stable condition.
Sicola was wearing dark colored clothing at the time of the accident and was not wearing a helmet. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
New York State Police would like to remind pedestrians to take precautions when they are out walking, running, riding bicycles and skateboarding. Pedestrians should always utilize the proper side of the roadway. It is also recommended that pedestrians wear clothing that is appropriate for the conditions and that is highly visible. Lastly, pedestrians should not wear headphones or anything else that will prevent them from hearing motor vehicles or other hazards around them.
