ACAP student jump for joy celebrating the end of a school year and the beginning of summer at the Westport 4 H Fair grounds on June 9.
The weekend events at the Essex County Fair in Westport have a number of large events and attractions, including a Johnny Cash impersonator and the annual Egglefield Ford Demolition Derby.
Friday, Aug. 10:
The Essex County Fair Horse Show begins at 8 a.m. on Friday morning at the horse and pulling ring, followed by the Essex County Fair Cattle Show at 9:30 a.m. in the 4-H Cooperative Extension area. Midway rides open at 10 a.m., with a bicycle rodeo and bike giveaway starting at noon at the Gordon Oil Grandstand, followed by the pudding eating contest at the EMS building at 2 p.m.
The annual John Longware Memorial Pancake Supper takes place in the conservation area at 5:15 p.m., followed by the Terry Lee Goffee “Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute” at the Grandstand at 7 p.m. The night concludes with a fireworks show at dusk.

The noise starts on the midway and at the grandstand area at noon, as midway rides open for the day and the Egglefield Ford Demolition Derby takes place. The derby will have an intermission in the afternoon and resume at 5 p.m.
In the 4-H/CCE area, the 4-H poultry costume show will take place at 1 p.m., followed by the cattle costume show at 4 p.m. The daily bike giveaway will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the South Lawn area.
Sunday, Aug. 12
The horse and pulling rings will host a trio of events on the last day of the fair, including the Essex County Fair Horse Show at 9 a.m., the oxen and steer pulling contest at 10 a.m., and the ECF Gymkahana Horse Show at 1 p.m.
The 4-H Poultry breed show takes place at 11 a.m., with the midway rides opening at noon.
The annual tractor pulls will also start at noon with farm stock and altered classes 6500 and up. The pulls will continue at 5 p.m. with farm stock, altered stock and pro stock 9000 and higher.
Also at 5 p.m., the annual Essex County Idol singing competition takes place on the South Lawn area, with a quick break at 5:30 p.m. to announce the daily bike giveaway winners.
Every day events
Daily events include the baby animal barn, Bubbles and More with Jeff Boyer, Hot Dog Pig Races, Merriloons the Clown, the J.D. Winslow Equestrian Show (Wednesday through Friday only), the Wild Animal Experience Petting Zoo, Floral Hall displays such as the Serendipity Spinners and the Duffer Borden Fair Collection, the Adirondack Maple producers sugarhouse, Sawdog the Chainsaw Carver, Cornell Cooperative Extension programs and exhibits, Rain Garden demonstrations, conservation area events and demonstrations and more.
