Officials in Essex County are urging homeowners and businesses to provide information on damage caused by recent flooding.
Don Jaquish, emergency services coordinator for Essex County, says affected property owners need to fill out a Disaster Damage Survey Form, available at town and village offices throughout the county.
The form asks for basic information, as well as a description of losses.
Jaquish says this is the first step in getting assistance for private property damage. He notes that homeowners and businesses should take photos and keep accurate records of any expenses incurred as a result of flooding.
Meanwhile, Jaquish continues to collect information on damage to public property. County lawmakers are hopeful that President Barack Obama will designate the area as a federal disaster zone.
