CROWN POINT - Sunday, Nov. 7, there is to be a 10:15 a.m. memorial service for Sgt. Alfred Covell Woods at The First Congregational Church of Crown Point.
Woods, a Crown Point native, was killed May 5, 1864 during the Battle of the Wilderness. He was 21 years old. It is thought that his remains are among the 13,000 unknown soldiers at Fredricksburg, Va.
A monument from the Veterans' Administration will be dedicated. The ceremony will feature a Marine color guard, the modern-day Army and Civil War reenactors. For more information, call Rev. Dave Hirtle at 597-3398 or e-mail email@example.com.
