SCHROON LAKE The inaugural Fall Festival Food Fest will be held in Schroon Lake.
The Schroon Lake Community Church will host the event Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It will feature apples, pumpkins, farm vegetables, pies, cakes, cookies and a luncheon along with cider and hot chocolate.
I know there are a lot of other non-profit organizations having events the same day or weekend, including Gore Mountain and Penfield Museum, but we are hopeful that the extended community of Schroon Lake will support this local event, said Lorraine Erikson, event organizer.
It is on the same order as our Christmas bazaar, lunch and items for sale, but we are limiting our first Food Fest to a $5 lunch featuring homemade soup, dessert and beverage, she said. We are also offering a $3 lunch that would be homemade soup and a beverage.
We are offering a piece of homemade pie or cake and a beverage for $3 as well as our bake table which will be selling whole homemade apple and pumpkin pies for $8 each and other homemade pies for $8 - $10, Erikson added. We will have many other home baked desserts, cakes, cookies and brownies that the ladies of the church made. We will be serving cider and hot chocolate along with coffee and tea.
The apples, pumpkins and vegetables for sale will come from a local farmer. They will be sold with a farm stand theme.
We hope to convince the men and women working the Food Fest to wear straw hats, jeans and flannel shirts, Erikson said. In addition, we have some local corn stalks, bales of hay and cat tails for decorations.

Schroon Lake is alive with small-town activities and many of our residents enjoy staying in town and supporting local events, Erikson said. We hope this will become one of their annual events that they will look forward to every year along starting with our Memorial Day Lions Club Auction, our spring Bed Race, our Fourth of July parade and chicken barbecue, our July Arts & Crafts Fair, our Folk Festival, our Labor Day Garage Sale in the Park & Main Street Dance, our Adirondack Marathon, our Fish & Game Club Lobster Bake, our Firehouse Christmas Craft Sale and our annual Christmas In Schroon Lake event with a Christmas bazaar and lunch at our church.
