Moriah will always be a running team, but the Vikings can throw the football.
Facing 10 defenders at the line of scrimmage against Tupper Lake, Moriah went to the air in its 35-12 Northern Football Conference victory Sept. 10.
Quarterback Mike Speshock hit 4 of 5 passes for 86 yards and touchdown for the Vikings.
Of course, Moriah still ran the ball - 45 times for 245 yards and four TDs.
Nick Gilbo got the Vikings on the board with a scoring run from a yard out in the first quarter. He added an 8-yard TD gallop in the second period and Ryan Mascarenas booted the PAT and a 28-yard field goal as the Vikings took a 16-0 lead at the half.
The Moriah defense dominated the first half, limiting Tupper to 41 yards in offense.
Tom Slattery collected a 35-yard TD pass from Speshock in the third quarter for a 22-0 Moriah advantage.
A 3-yard TD run by Gilbo and a 26-yard TD scamper by Speshock made it 35-0 in the final quarter before Tupper managed a pair of meaningless scores.
Wally Edwards paced the Moriah ground game with 128 yards on 18 carries. Gilbo added 63 yards rushing.
Saranac 21, Ticonderoga 7
Ticonderoga again struggled on offense as it fell to Saranac, 21-7, in Northern Football Conference action Sept. 11.
With starter Luke Bartlett injured, the Sentinels played three different quarterbacks in the game.
Still, the Sentinels were in game all the way.
Ben Weightman threw a pair of TD passes to stake saranac to a 13-0 lead at the intermission.
Ti put together a 78-yard drive in the third period, capped by Dan Morrison's 29-yard TD run. Frank Jebb's extra Point made it 13-7.
A Ti safety put Saranac ahead 15-7 early in the final quarter and it stayed that way until Saranac intercepted a Sentinel pass and returned it 35 yards for a TD with 38 seconds to play.
Jesse Perkins paced Ti, running for 67 yards and throwing for 25. Morrison ran for 59 yards, while Ryan Borho ran for 18 yards and threw for 58.
