LAKE PLACID Rodeos, D-spins, Flat spins, Mute Grabs, Corks, Dinner Rolls and more await as the Olympic village delivers a summer-ending splash on Saturday, Aug. 25. Its the 4th Annual Lake Placid Huck and Tuck and it will take the plunge at the Freestyle Sports Park on Rt. 73 at the Olympic Jumping Complex.
Local and regional freeskiers and riders will impress with their steeziest moves off the single kicker into the 750,000-gallon pool during this new school, free-ride competition.
The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) will award a cash purse of $300 and a 2008 freestyle pool pass worth $600, which allows the winner use of the pool next summer.
The Lake Placid Huck and Tucks mantra is the greater the dare the bigger the air! Its that all-important wow factor that the judges will consider in determining a winner. With that, the contestants are free to improvise.
The action begins with a day of training on Friday, Aug. 24 on the trampoline and ramps from 12:454 p.m. Training resumes at 8 am Saturday with two qualifying rounds to follow. The top 30 competitors from the qualifications will move on to the 1 p.m. afternoon finals. The rest of the competitors are eligible to showcase their tricks on the rails during the Rail Jam Showcase on snow after the competition. At the adjacent freestyle hill, ORDA will bring snow from the Olympic Center and deposit it on the winter competition site allowing skiers and riders to session a rail on the real stuff.
Daily admission fees are $14 for adults and $8 for juniors and seniors. Admission includes access to the Lake Placid Huck and Tuck as well as a chairlift ride up the ski jump landing hills and a 26-story elevator ride to the top of the 120-meter ski jump tower for unparalleled views of the Adirondacks.
