The Franklin man killed in a one-car rollover Sunday afternoon died of head trauma caused by the accident, an autopsy shows.
Plattsburgh-based state police discovered 64-year-old Byron E. Patnode's body inside an overturned Chevrolet Cavalier at about 2:19 p.m. April 3 on state Route 3 in the town of Saranac.
His vehicle crossed the right lane and entered the ditch where it slid 100 feet before striking a drainage pipe, overturning his vehicle.
It's still uncertain what caused Patnode to veer off the road. Police said there was no uninvolved vehicles, no evidence of texting or phone use, or inclement weather.
Police noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The accident investigation is ongoing, and police had no further information to report late last week.
