HAGUE - Free taxpayer assistance is available to local taxpayers.
The local AARP Tax Aide program prepares and electronically files individual 2010 tax returns; refunds can be direct deposited to checking or savings account, giving quick refunds to taxpayers.
Volunteer counselors, trained and certified by the IRS, assist low and middle income taxpayers. People do not have to be retired or a member of AARP for this service.
Last year, the local volunteers prepared over 100 returns, helping about 180 local taxpayers. Nationally, more than 35,300 volunteer tax preparers working at 6,500 sites, assisted more than 2.6 million taxpayers.
Free tax help is available in Hague Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 1 through April 18 and in Ticonderoga on Fridays, Feb. 4, Feb. 25 and March 11.
People should call the Hague Community Center at 543-6161 to schedule an appointment.
