Darcy Tarte, chairwoamn of the Addison County Chamber of Commerces Publicity and Promotions Committee announced that the December Business of the Month is Art on Main, located in Bristol. Art on Main, located at 25 Main S. in Bristol, was opened in April of 2002 after a test run during the holiday season of 2001. It was originally run by the Bristol Friends of the Arts until March 2006 when Art on Main formed their own separate Board of Directors to focus exclusively on running the gallery. Current Board Members are Reed Prescott, a painter from Lincoln, Linda Shiller Cormany, a community member from Bristol, Cynthia Guild Kling, a painter from Starksboro, and Walt Greiner, a community member from Lincoln. The gallery was originally located in 25C Main St., the space behind Deerleap Books, from 2001 through January of 2007. On Feb. 9, Art on Main moved into the former Deerleap Books space. Art on Main was able to receive significant community financial and volunteer support that made the move possible. Art on Main has exhibited work by almost 200 artists in every medium since its inception. Currently, 98 artists display their creative work in the gallery. The artists hail from almost every county in Vermont, 47% of them live in Addison County, while 35% live in the five town area. Only eight of the artists live out of state, but most of them have some strong connection to Vermont. Fifteen of the current artists are new additions in 2007. It also display products whose sales benefit area organizations like Bristol Friends of the Arts, the Sandy Gullikson (Art Scholarship) Fund, and the Bristol Historical Society. Due to its recent successes, Art on Main has been able to increase their staffing to two 20-hour a week positions, and also securing two excellent interns from Mt. Abraham Union High School. Gallery Manager Carolyn Ashby has been joined by new Retail Coordinator Nancy Luke.
