JOHNSBURG-Parallel to the Girl Scout motto, brownie, daisy and junior troops in Johnsburg are dedicating themselves to discoving the world around them, connecting with their peers and taking action in their community.
"We are in a new evolution as Girl Scouts," said Johnsburg scout leader Sarah Williams. "We aim to teach the girls to be indipendent leaders in the local community and beyond."
Williams has three daughters enrolled in Girl Scouts and has been leading the troop for several years.
Their most recent event, which will become annual is a cookie walk fundraiser hosted in Wevertown.
Aside from their patch prjects and fundraising events, the Johnsburg troop has also been dedicating some of their time to learning about the local community.
They recently took a snow hike at Garnet Hill Lodge and learned about the local mining history.
Williams also encourages her troop to work regionally, welcoming girls from surrounding communities, like Minerva. They also meet with regional troops and service units for events.
"We want to welcome local girls into a safe and encouraging environment," said Willams. "That is why we are here."
