QUEENSBURY Happy Tails is known for its healthy, happy puppies. The Queensbury pet shop that specializes in puppies from healthy breeders has added grooming to its list of services. Owner Susan Purdue said her shop has offered grooming services sporadically in the past, but now has a groomer four days a week. Joan Fiorino has been grooming dogs for almost 40 years, including Purdues own. When she told Purdue that she was looking for a new place to work, she jumped at the opportunity. Fiorino is available by appointment on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Happy Tails. I groom most breeds, she said. Just call for a quote. She grooms the puppies at the store as well as show dogs. Its important to start grooming a puppy so it gets used to it, Fiorino said. That way, its less traumatic when theyre full grown. Fiorino said a full grooming includes a bath, brush out, nails, ears, trim and whatever other services a pet owner may want. The longer the coat, the more often a dog should be groomed, she said. A lot of dogs shed their coats and its just healthier for them to be groomed. She said without grooming, dogs can develop hot spots or other irritations. I find a lot of ticks that owners dont necessarily find because while Im grooming their dog, I have my hands all over them, she said. Many people dont understand how important it is to groom your dogs coat. Puppies purchased at Happy Tails get a free grooming and a certificate for another. For an appointment, call 615-0223. Happy Tails is located at 472 Corinth Road, a mile and a half west of Exit 18.
