ELIZABETHTOWN - Essex County and Adirondack Community Action Programs (ACAP) have partnered to offer a new program to Essex County residents. The program has been developed to offer a one-time emergency fuel allotment of $500 to families who have applied for HEAP and are over the guidelines. Families over the guidelines by $250 or less may be eligible for this benefit.
This collaboration will benefit many families who are unable to keep up with the cost of heating their homes. Cindy Cobb, Program Coordinator said the program couldn't have come at a better time for families struggling to make ends meet. While the cost of fuel has gone down somewhat, the overall cost of living remains high, and without the program many families would have to make difficult choices between affording to heat their homes or feeding their families.
