NORTH CREEK - Laurie Prescott Arnheiter's Hudson River Trading Company will host a variety of literary and musical talent during the first-ever "Rhythm & Rhymes at the Hudson: A Celebration of Authors and Artists," Saturday, Aug. 7 from 1-3 p.m.
The Main Street store is known locally for having one of the largest collections of Adirondack-inspired books and music in the region. Arnheiter will invite some of the award-winning authors and artists of these works to visit Hudson River Trading Company for this debut event. Writers and artists will also be available for signings.
"We love the close connection we've developed with so many authors and artists who share their talents in our store," said Arnheiter. "This event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase them and their work."
Rhythm and Rhymes shares space in a busy day in North Creek as Race the Train kicks off its 9th annual event and the 3rd annual Wayne Stock to North Creek takes place at Ski Bowl Park. Hundreds of visitors will journey to North Creek for both traditions and are welcome to add Rythm and Rhymes to their plans.
"We think our Rhythms and Rhymes Celebration is a good way to keep visitors in town after Race the Train and will direct them to Ski Bowl Park in the afternoon for Wayne Stock," said Arnheiter.
Twenty authors and artists from all over the Adirondacks and northern New York region will be available to sign their books and CDs. Acclaimed guitarist Scott Adams will perform his Adirondack music while the public mingles with the honored guests.
Authors include Gary and Carol Vanriper, authors of the Adirondack Kids series; Ross Whaley, co-author of the The Great Experiment in Conservation: Voices from around the Adirondack Park; Jerry Jenkins, author of his new book Climate Change in the Adirondacks; and Elizabeth Folwell, author of Short Carries: Essays from Adirondack Life and a co-author of the bestseller Dog Hikes in the Adirondacks.
