One inmate was hurt in an altercation at the Federal Correctional Institute in Ray Brook earlier this week.
According to FCI spokeswoman Robin VanWeelden, a fight broke out between two inmates at about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.
VanWeelden called it an "isolated incident" that was broken up quickly by correctional officers.
"As a result of the altercation, one inmate was transported to an outside hospital for further medical treatment," VanWeelden said in a statement sent to local media outlets.
Prison staff was unharmed in the incident and the facility is operating under a "normal schedule," VanWeelden said.
"At no time was there a threat to the public safety," she added.
