TICONDEROGA-Inter-Lakes Health Board of Directors recently approved a resolution to close Inter-Lakes Medical Supply, its retail medical equipment service, effective July 1, 2011.
The health care organization could not continue to absorb the ongoing financial loss this service represents. The closing represents a loss of 2 full-time positions.
In a letter to customers, Charlie Miceli, interim chief executive officer, Moses Ludington Hospital, said, "I recognize that many of you have relied on this service for a long time, and that made this decision difficult, but Inter-Lakes Health could not continue to absorb the ongoing financial loss this service represents."
The service supplied customers with items such as respiratory equipment, hospital bed rental, orthotics and equipment to assist with daily living. The company had approximately 20 rental customers, some located almost 100 miles away. Inter-Lakes Health will be in contact with these customers to identify options in finding another company that will continue their service.
"The health care environment is changing," said Miceli. "We have to position Inter-Lakes Health to be able to respond to these changes and this is one of those hard decisions we had to make."
