In the interest of general public safety and the welfare of its constituents, the Town of Jay has declared a State of Emergency effective at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 10, for a period of five days.
The unusual weather conditions of late have caused significant icing on driveways and sidewalks, therefore, all Town of Jay residents will be allowed to access sand from the Town of Jay Highway Garage located on the Valley Road in Jay, Monday-Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
“We, as a Town, want to be sure that all of our residents have the ability to obtain the sand they need to maintain safe conditions for themselves and their neighbors," said Town of Jay D.P.W. Director Chris Garrow.
Please be advised of the following conditions:
•Sand is available to Town of Jay Residents Only
•You must provide your own buckets or receptacles for sand
•NO pickup truck loads allowed
“This State of Emergency is in the best interest of public safety for my constituents," Town of Jay Supervisor Randy Douglas said. "I am asking you to please consider your neighbors, the elderly and the disabled and if possible spread sand on their driveways and sidewalks as well. The Town Board, DPW Director Garrow and I felt that this was the responsible thing to do under the unusual circumstances that this weather has placed us in.
Please call the Supervisor’s Office at 647-2204 or the Highway Garage at 946-7170 with any questions.
