TICONDEROGA John E. "Jack" McCarthy, 79, of Ticonderoga and Cibolo, Texas, passed away Friday, October 26, 2007, at his Ticonderoga residence, after a long illness. Born in Ticonderoga, November 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Anita B. (Lillie) McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School, Class of 1945; and a graduate of Fordham University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. McCarthy was a School Teacher in the Ticonderoga School System for 27 years, having taught 9th grade History. He began his teaching career in the Whitesboro School System. In addition to his teaching duties, Jack was one of the Ticonderoga Football Coaches for many years, including the C.V.L. Championship undefeated Team of 1960. He was also a co-owner of the Burgoyne Mart Antique Shop of Ticonderoga for 17 years. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Colleen (Thatcher) McCarthy; four sons, Michael J. McCarthy of Austin, Texas, Stephen R. McCarthy of Rome, NY, John D. McCarthy of Parma, Ohio, and Thomas K. McCarthy of Sussex, New Jersey; two daughters, Brenda Lee Speshock of Mineville, and Deborah J. McCarthy of Glen Allen, Virginia; two step-daughters, Erika J. McKinstry of Plattsburgh and Jade E. McKinstry of Ticonderoga; two brothers, George McCarthy of San Antonio, Texas, and Francis McCarthy of Mineville; and two sisters, Mary Gauger of Schenectady and Margaret Ruede of Watervliet. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal little dog, "Fred". Relatives and friends called Monday, October 29, 2007, from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Wilcox Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Funeral Service followed at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home. The Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw, of St. Marys Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate.
