The public will get its first glimpse at the tentative 2013 Johnsburg town budget at the next town board meeting on Oct. 16, Supervisor Ron Vanselow announced at the Oct. 2 Town Board meeting.
Vanselow revealed no details about his spending plan but said the public will have the chance to weigh in on the proposal at a public hearing that will likely be scheduled for the town board meeting on Nov. 8 (moved to a Thursday because of the national general election on the 6th.) The board will consider public input before adopting a final budget, something that is likely to be voted upon at the board meeting on Nov. 20, Vanselow said.
In other business, the board voted unanimously to issue a request for bids to replace the ceiling at the Wevertown Community Center. The job would include replacing a drop ceiling in the main meeting hall as well as replacing the kitchen ceiling. The board set Nov. 8 as the date to open bids.
The board voted unanimously to hire Peter Morehouse, the low bidder, to conduct weed and plant remediation in the pond at Ski Bowl Park. Morehouse bid $2,800 for the job. Half of that amount, $1,400, will be reimbursed to the town through a grant for park improvements.
Ski Bowl Park project administrator Kelly Nessle announced that the long-anticipated climbing boulder for the Ski Park playground will be delivered Oct. 16, causing Supervisor Vanselow to quip that it would be in time for the first snowfall.
“With some snow on top of it, it’ll look just like the Matterhorn,” Vanselow said, suggesting that some little miniature skiers shushing down the boulder would complete the picture.
Town Secretary Cherie Ferguson announced that applications for those seeking Occupancy Tax funding are available at the Town Hall and online at www.johnsburgny.com Applications are due by October 30, Ferguson said.
The Johnsburg Town Board will meet again in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Scout Hall, 4 Peaceful Valley Road, Johnsburg.
