NORTH CREEK The Johnsburg Central Schools Cross-Country team is closing the season with a bang. Thursday, Oct. 25, the Johnsburg Jags rose to the League Championships with a strong showing. The race was held on the 2005 State Championship course at Queensbury High School. All four of the teams girls ran personal best times and two captured spots on the Adirondack League All-Stars. Jesse Cross battled down the home-stretch to displace two Lake George runners and capture the number six spot and an Adirondack All-Star Medal. Morgan Wilson sprinted with two North Warren girls to place eleventh and seal a spot on the All-Star team. Calli and Shelby Powell surpassed their season goal of breaking the 30 minute mark for the 5K outing. The boys varsity runners followed with an equally strong effort. Steve Veldman grabbed an Adirondack League All-Star shirt by placing seventh. Tyler Morse ran strong with a personal best time and a nineteenth place finish. A.J. Heid gave everything he had to finish in twenty-second place. Tyler and A.J. have been working hard all season and their improvement has been the pay off. Matthew Hayden ended his modified season with a lot of respect from the League. Matt ran in the lead pack to place fourth overall. He has been training all year with the varsity runners and next year will be a talented addition to the high school team. Congratulations go to Matt on an impressive season. The five Varsity runners were scheduled to compete with all Class D schools in section II at Saratoga Spa park this past week. This first year team has been a joy to work with, Coach Gary Wilson said. Cross-country demands a lot of hard work, and this team has met the challenge with a smilesometimes.
