JOHNSBURG - In its fourth year, Johnsburg cross country continues to grow as they welcome new runners.
Head coach Gary Wilson has been with the team since its first year and is encouraged by it's growth. This year will be the first time that the men's team has the numbers for official scoring.
"I am encouraged by the underclassmen who have joined and we will continue to keep building a program from their talent," said Wilson.
Wilson graduated Adirondack League all-star Bridgette Crooms from last years team. He feels that senior runner Kendyl Morse will have no problems filling the shoes of Crooms is the upcoming season.
Morse has been running consistently in the off-season, according to Wilson and her hard work will pay off during the official season.
Aside from training for the upcoming season, Morse also ran in the Lake Placid half marathon this summer to raise money for the North Country Hardship Fund, a local charity organization.
"I see her being very successful this year and should have no problem bringing home all-star honors," said Wilson.
Last year, Matt Hayden joined Crooms with all-star honors and will return to the team this year as a junior.
Joining seniors Hayden, Lance Baker, Levi Kranick and Jessi Yates will be sophomore Jon Ordway and Freshman Dylan Moore to round out the men's team.
Wilson expects a lot out of his senior boys.
"They should all do well in the Adirondack league," he said. "They are well-conditioned and ready to go."
Morse will be joined by freshman runner Shiloh Wood who was kept from running last year due to an injury.
"She has recovered well and is developing into a very solid runner," said Wilson.
Wilson is looking forward to great success for this year's seniors, but is also encouraged by the talent shown by his underclassmen. There is a lot of promise in them for the future of this team, he said.
