JOHNSBURG - Tim Leach brings 34 years of coaching to an already experienced team as the Jaguars hope to improve last year's record and be a contender for league honors this year.
The Jaguars were 2-5 in the league and 2- 13 overall last year.
With ten upperclassmen, Leach has a stacked team entering the season.
Senior Ben Richards will lead the team from the mound, joined by starting seniors, Sean O'Neill at short stop, Lance Baker in the outfield, Kevin Conner at second base, Travis Plansker at third base, and Matt Henry in the outfield. Rounding out the starting line-up are juniors Taylor Ordway at first base, Chris Scott in the outfield and Dustin Weller behind the plate at catcher. Leach anticipates Weller to be the top catcher in the league this season.
"We have a very veteran team," said Leach. "Everyone is a returning player from last year's team. That is the good news - the bad news is that we only won two games last year."
Leach's number one priority is to improve that record this year. He admits that Taylor Ordway will be a key.
"He played out of position last year as an outfielder," said Leach. "He will pitch more this year and also be counted on more to improve our infield defense."
Leach is relying on a talented pitching squad of six players as well as several athletically versatile players that can be successful in a variety of positions.
Junior Liam Harrison is one of the players that will back Richards up on the mound.
Sophomores Chet Prouty, Nick Porter and Kaleb Persons will fill in positions in both the infield and outfield.
"I'd like to think we will be the team to beat this year," said Leach.
