LAKE GEORGE Sharp passing and solid defense was responsible for the Lake George soccer teams 4-0 win Friday over Berne-Knox to advance into the second round of sectionals. Junior forward Mike Kenny, assisted by a pass from Dylan Lambert, started out Lake Georges second-half scoring run. Junior halfback Tim Goutos kicked in the second goal, followed by a shot by senior forward Toby Noble. Senior defender Will Matthews scored the fourth when a shot was blocked and he stepped up and slammed the ball into the goal on a rebound. Coach Blake White said the depth of his team was a key factor in its success so far this year. Monday, the team had a formidable 17-2 record. Weve got a lot of guns, and its hard for the opponent to key in on them all, he said. White also praised his defense and his goalie Cameron Jones, who kept the game a shutout. But the Berne-Knox goalie worked harder in the game, batting down 18 of the 22 shots on goal by Lake George. As of Monday, Lake George was scheduled to play Tuesday against Vorheesville for the second round of sectionals. White said that a win over Vorheesville would pit them against the winner of a matchup between Schenectady Christian and Galway, which was 2007 Section II champion this finals matchup is scheduled for Saturday.
