Arthur Fleming of Thurman, was arrested along with Claude Smith on a charge of petit larceny and he failed to appear at his hearing before Thurman Town Justice Hodgson. He was eventually captured by Officer E.D. Smith of that town. Fleming was found in hiding at the home of his wife's grandfather, Anson Frazier and he was sentenced to six months in the Albany penitentiary. Had Fleming not tried to avoid his hearing, his sentence would not have been over 30 days, probably in the county jail.
In other news, Ira Smith of Thurman was arrested for public intoxication and was sentenced by Justice Hodgson to four months in the county jail.
