ROUSES POINT - The Champlain Children's Learning Center will be hosting their annual open house Friday, Oct. 22. But, this is no ordinary open house.
When the center first began having open houses about eight years ago, director Becky Filion said they thought it would be interesting to have it as a Halloween party as well.
"Then, the next year we started with the haunted house idea and it was such a huge success that we just started doing it every year," Filion explained.
This year's haunted house will be based on the theme of a Haunted Movie Theater.
"We had a donation of a bunch of Christmas items this year so we decided to make one of the rooms in the haunted house The Nightmare Before Christmas," said Filion. "Then, we just built from there."
Other films to be in theater include Alice in Wonderland, Frankenstein, and The Wizard of Oz.
"The movies that are more Halloweenish," Filion explained. "We just take the idea and make it a little scarier."
People are also invited to wear costumes, which Filion said is really good for the kids as it gives them an extra chance to wear their costume, instead of just Halloween night.
"It just makes the atmosphere a little better," she said.
The evening, which will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., will also feature games for youngsters, as well as raffles and a bake sale.
"It's probably the biggest fundraiser that we do," said Filion.
Admission to the event is a $1 donation. For more information, contact CCLC at 297-2019.
"It's a good place to get to meet people," said Filion, "and if you're interested in the center, it's a good chance to check it out."
