JOHNSBURG - At its June meeting, the American Legion Auxiliary installed officers for the 2011-12 year. They are: Sylvia Lawrence, Pres; Vonda Beattie, VP/Treasurer; Hilda Alexander, Secy; Lois Yandon, second VP/Sergeant at Arms and Jan Nickerson, Chaplain. Jennifer Glode is in charge of Girls' State.
Members of the community saw some of the Auxiliary at the Memorial Day ceremony where Lois Yandon spoke about the history of the organization. Perhaps you've purchased a poppy for your lapel from an Auxiliary member. Proceeds from poppy sales are designated to help the cause of veterans.
The local branch 629 of the Auxiliary has about 50 members. The organization is dedicated to honor our country, foster patriotism, and advocate for our male and female veterans and their families.
Each year, Unit 629 sponsors a high school junior to go to Girls' State. This year's attendee is Chelsea Gazaille who will attend the conference from June 26 to July 2 at SUNY Brockport.
The Auxiliary meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the North Creek Fire House. Our next meeting will be on September 6th. For further information contact Sylvia Lawrence at 251-2716.
