RUTLAND Rutland Post 31 played a pair of legion baseball games last week with mixed results. On July 8, in Rutland, Post 31 battled back from a 5-4 deficit to defeat South Royalton Post 51 8-5. Zak Aquistapace, Chad Ryan, Robbie Dorion, Aaron Bloomer and Mitch Blair all had two hits for an effective Rutland offense, while Geoff Bloomer drove in two runs for the victors. Ryan went the distance on the mound to pick up the win, giving up five runs on a dozen hits with ten strikeouts. Post 31 fell to 5-3 in league play last Thursday (July 10th) when they were defeated by Bennington Post 13 4-2. With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning Ryan Carter blasted a solo homerun to give Post 31 a 2-1 lead, but it was a short lived lead. Sparked by a two run double off the bat of Dylan Parmenter, Bennington scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and held on to claim the 4-2 win. Corey Armstrong pitched an effective game for Bennington, including a stretch where he retired nine straight Rutland hitters. Armstrong ended up picking up the complete game win, giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks. His Counterpart, Joe Rodolfy was equally effective, and if you could take away that sixth inning, it is he that would have got the win. Rodolfy surrendered three earned runs on six hits, while striking out three and issuing no walks in a tough luck loss. Bennington improved to 7-3 with the win.
