NORTH CREEK - The "Lights On" holiday celebration has become a wintertime tradition in North Creek over the last several years. Community members as well as visitors are welcome to take part in this year's month long celebration of the holidays and the winter ski season.
The "Lights On" committee is calling all civic groups, clubs, musical groups and organizations who are interested in getting involved with the celebration to voice their interest soon. Opportunities include organizing a float for the annual "Lights On" parade that will make its way through the village of North Creek Saturday, Dec. 4.
Over the years, the "Lights On" committee, made up of residents and business people from the Johnsburg Community, have worked together to create a community celebration of all things winter.
"This is a community-wide event," said committee member Laurie Arnheiter. "We want it to be a big and fun, therefore, the more the merrier."
The 5 p.m. tolling of the Methodist Church Carillon will officially sound the beginning of the 2010 "Lights On" festival Friday, Dec. 3. Also on Friday evening will be the lighting of the community Christmas tree, preceded by welcoming comments from Supervisor Sterling Goodspeed, caroling and much more.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 and will begin at the North Creek Firehouse and end at the Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Any group or organization is welcome to create a float. Businesses on Main Street will offer refreshments to all parade participants following the parade.
The Copperfield Inn's Ballroom will be home to the "Lights On Fair," featuring local artisans and crafters as well as a silent auction. Those bringing a non-perishable food items to support the food pantry will receive 1 free silent auction ticket. The fair will open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Jen at the Copperfield at 251-2200.
