PLATTSBURGH Senator Elizabeth Little (R,C,I-Queensbury) secured $2 million in the 2007 state budget for community projects throughout the six counties she represents. The senators office received 128 requests for funds, 93 of which were funded. The member item funds focused on non-for-profit organizations providing community services, improvements and education/ historic preservation of the community. Some projects funded, such as sewer and infrastructure, help keep costs down for the taxpayer. Others promote events that help the area financially with tourist dollars, said Daniel E. MacEntee, a spokesman for Little. Historic preservation is important because our Adirondack history is unique and attracts visitors, yet small towns do not have the resources to preserve or rehabilitate structures. MacEntee said the majority of the member item projects, and those Little favors, are ones of organizations that have fundraised, have a good volunteer base that has reached a plateau of what the community can give, and need a boost to reach their goals and complete the project. This funding supports many worthwhile programs and projects that add to our quality of life in the North Country, said Little in a press release.
