LAKE GEORGE Imagine the mayor of a sleepy Lake George town finding a skeleton and discovering a thirty-year old mystery.
Thats the basic plot of a new mystery by Anne White called Secrets Dark and Deep, part of her mystery series set in the Lake George region.
Loren Graham, mayor of the sleepy Lake George town of Emerald Point, has promised to stay out of Sheriffs Department business, and she means to keep that promise. But when a stranger drags her out on a cold fall night to show her a skeleton, shes gets caught up in a mystery which blows the lid off a thirty-year-old secret and puts her on a collision course with a murderer.
The book was officially published in May and is now available in area bookstores and shops.
Whites best yet, said Julia Spencer-Fleming, a consistent winner of the mystery worlds top awards. A lively puzzler worthy of Agatha Christie, tightly plotted with more red herrings than a can of sardines.
White is a resident of Glens Falls, and finds the Lake George region an ideal setting for a series. Her first Lake George Mystery, An Affinity For Murder, in which long-lost Georgia OKeefe paintings turn up in a lakeside attic, won a Malice Domestic Unpublished Writers Grant in 1999, the Dark Oak Award from the books publisher, Oak Tree Books, in 2001, and a nomination as a Malice Best First Mystery in 2002.
In Beneath The Surface, the residents of Emerald Point begin to observe the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War, and in Best Laid Plans, they celebrate the opening of their new community center. Unfortunately, murder has a way of complicating all their undertakings.
White is a former Queensbury High School librarian, and she wrote extensively on career topics for high school students. After she retired, she began writing mysteries and is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, LARAC, the Lake George Arts Project and Adirondack Center for Writing. She is married and the mother of six children..
Whites Lake George Mysteries are available in area bookstores and may also be ordered on line from Amazon, Ingram, Barnes and Noble, and Hillard &Harris. They are also available as book-club selections in small paperback format from Worldwide, a division of Harlequin.
