Tri-Lakes resident Monica Moore recently competed in the 5th annual First Book for McClean County Spelling Bee. Moore, along with her fellow librarians, out-spelled a roomful of hopefuls to win second place in this highly-competitive event. Dreams of a first-place finish were dashed, however, when the team was confronted with the word "unappeasable."
"We were crushed," said Moore. "We trained so hard for this event, and to get so far and then see victory slip through fingers...well, it was just devastating." Plans for next year's competition are already underway, and there is talk of requiring all participants to wear their glasses.
