LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Center for the Arts was recently named one of the Essex County grant recipients for the Stewart's Shops Holiday Match program.
Stewart's presented the organization with a check for $1,000 in order to help underwrite instructor fees for their free Afterschool Arts Workshops during the 2009-2010 programming year. LPCA anticipates offering over 75 different workshops for students ages 4 to 14 years old, which are offered to children from a four-county region.
The LPCA was one of numerous outstanding organizations that applied for the grant during the 2008 Holiday application period. In order to qualify, organizations had to be tax-exempt under IRS section 501(c)(3).
From Thanksgiving through Christmas, countless customers gave to the Stewart's Holiday Match Program, and Stewart's matched their donations. Together over $1.14 million for 1,317 children's charities was raised. Since 1986 Stewart's and their customers have raised over $12 million.
