The NCSPCA would like to take some time to mention the importance of reporting any animal abuse situation you may witness. Unfortunately, our four-legged friends do not have a way to voice for themselves when they are being neglected or mistreated. If you do see any situation which you feel may be an indicator of animal mistreatment, please call either the shelter or your local law enforcement office to anonymously report your concerns. These phone numbers include: NCSPCA shelter 518-962-8604, Essex County Sheriff's Office: 518-873-6321, and the NY State Police Office: 518-897-2000. We would like to highlight some canine friends this week who have been extended residents of the shelter due to their unique personalities. These dogs could all be perfect companions for the right person, and are also great candidates for the pet fostering program. Virgil, a senior beagle/hound mix, is a diminutive fellow who is set in his ways and looking for a quiet home without children. Rusty, a handsome Chow mix, is a big, energetic dog who arrived at the shelter as the result of an animal abuse\Neglect case. He tends to be anxious when approached while in his kennel, but quickly warms up to people when he is walked on a leash. Princess, a Terrier mix, also arrived at the shelter as a result of an animal abuse case. She was initially quite sickly, but has become a healthy young lady with a desire to find a loving home where she can have lots of attention. If you come to the shelter to meet Virgil, Rusty, or Princess, please stop by to see some of our other long-term resident pets. Although all of our animals are looking for homes, these cats and dogs are especially anxious to find their perfect families. Sweet Lab-mix Lady, tortoiseshell cat Angellica, growing kitten Apollo, and Hound-mix Indigo are all eager to meet you! Please stop by the shelter at 23 Lakeshore Road in Westport to meet these and other pets who are all eager to find forever homes.
