PLATTSBURGH - The festive season has already begun at Champlain Centre. And, this weekend the mall will truly celebrate the giving spirit of the holidays.
The mall will take part in the fifth annual "Night of Giving," this Sunday, Nov. 21, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Customers who visit the mall with a special Night of Giving ticket will be entitled to exclusive in-store promotions by participating merchants. The tickets are purchased from one of the nearly 20 participating nonprofit organizations who receive 100 percent of the proceeds from the tickets they sell.
"I think more than ever this year we're going to have more nonprofits," said the mall's marketing director Joan LaPier. "We're excited about that. I think they see it as a good deal."
LaPier explained during the event people first go to the customer service desk with their ticket at which time they'll receive the list of special promotions throughout the mall.
LaPier estimates 50 percent of the mall's stores are taking part in this special event.
Night of GIving also features festive entertainment held in the middle of the mall.
"We are going to have Sweet Adelines, we're going to have the [State University of New York at Plattsburgh] Gospel Choir, and we're having Barbershoppers and dancers and so on," LaPier said. "We're also having the [Plattsburgh High School] orchestra. So, we're excited about that."
The $5 tickets can be purchased from any of the following organizations: St. John Feral Cat Fund; Woodmen of the World; Elmore SPCA; Plattsburgh YMCA; Alpha Sigma Phi; United Way of the Adirondack Region; Battle of Plattsburgh Association; Hannah's Hope for GAN; Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County; North Country Life Flight; Sweet Adelines; Adirondack Dance Company & Liturgical Dance Troupe; Kiwanis Breakfast Club; and American Heart Fund.
"Support your nonprofits," said LaPier. "It's a difficult time for everyone, not just for nonprofits. Perhaps people who donated in years past to their favorite charity have not been able to this year. So, this is a way for other people, and for those same people, to be able to just ask people to buy the $5 ticket."
For more information about Night of Giving, contact LaPier at 561-8660, ext. 113. To purchase tickets, contact any of the participating nonprofit organizations.
"The mall is decorated, it's very festive," she said. "It's just a fun time as well as a great time to shop."
