PLATTSBURGH City police have arrested a man for allegedly robbing his elderly mother at knife point. Vernon Chellis, 51, Plattsburgh, was arrested Tuesday on one felony count of first-degree robbery and one misdemeanor count of second-degree menacing. Chellis was arrested following a complaint received by the Plattsburgh City Police Department from a female resident of an apartment at 34 Flynn Ave., a senior citizen housing complex. The victim, a 76-year-old female, reported Chellis visited the apartment at approximately 11 a.m. and displayed a knife, demanding money from her. Chellis' mother gave him $50 cash at which point he fled with the money, a department reported stated. Officers recovered the knife near the crime scene. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The investigation is continuing. Chellis was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court before the Hon. Mark J. Rogers. He was remanded to the Clinton County Jail with no bail. As of Wednesday morning, Chellis was scheduled to return to city court May 9.
