The number one way for beneficiaries to fight fraud and abuse is to keep track of appointments and medical services and then compare those records to the Medicare Summary Notice (MSN). It is recommended that you make a note on your calendar of the date of your appointments, which providers they are with and what service you received. Before you file the MSN away, check the following:
* That the Medicare number on the notice matches the number on your card
* That your name and address are correct
* That the date of service, the provider and the service received are correct.
If you have questions about charges on your statement, contact your provider for an explanation. If you are not satisfied with that explanation and if you suspect fraudulent practices, call the SMP Medicare Fraud Hotline at 1-877-678-4697.
