Robert LaFiandra, M.D.
Robert P. LaFiandra, M.D., 71, died in his home in Middlebury Sept. 3. Dr. LaFiandra was a well respected physician in Middlebury and was a keystone at Porter Hospital for many decades.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he studied medicine before joining the Public Health Service and served in Chile, where he developed a passion for South American culture.
After returning to the U.S., Dr. LaFiandra moved to Vermont for his residency in Internal Medicine and in 1970 opened his solo practice in Middlebury, devoting his life to the health of patients, community, and the profession.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; his three children, Matthew, Andrew, and Alessandra; his two sisters, Annette and Alba; in addition to a large extended family.
Dr. LaFiandra enjoyed the quality of life among Vermont's mountains, skiing to his office, becoming a master gardener, and supporting all levels of local athletics and arts. He treasured his friendships, and reminds us all to stop smoking, eat more roughage, wear a helmet, and exercise.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Way of Addison County, Town Hall Theater or Friends of Middlebury Hockey. Details for a memorial service will be announced soon.
