MINERVA Minerva Newcomb girls varsity soccer coach T.J. Feiden believes despite her teams lack of depth, they will be competitive in the tough Southern Division this season.
Baring any injuries or eligibility issues, Feiden added.
Gone from last years squad are standouts Laura Bolan, Kasey Dubay, Alice Kelly, Danielle Lanphear and Maria Montayne.
But Feiden has a ready core group to replace them in Emma Corey and Whitney McGinn, both a senior midfielder/strikers who along with Larissa Roy, a sophomore striker, will give the team an offensive spark. Junior Chantelle Bean returns in the goal.
Chantelle is a strong defensive plus and were looking to fill in the holes in the defense around her with some young talent, Feiden said.
The team will have an international flair with junior Thais Torres from Brazil and Senior Sara Fransson from Sweden on the squad this year.
Were having a lot of fun teaching both girls English and were learning lots of new stuff from them, Feiden said.
