The Washington County Economic Opportunity Council is now accepting applications until Jan. 30 for grants to fund youth activity projects.
These ACT for Youth grants are available to any youth-related project planned by an organization in Washington and Warren Counties, in which youth ages 10 to 19 play key roles in the activities and in the project planning.
These mini-grants range from $100 to $400 and are for projects which can be completed by Sept. 1. Grants are to be awarded in April to projects or events which help provide more opportunities and a more active voice for youth. For an application, call Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc., ACT For Youth collaboration coordinator Bill Toscano at 746-2391 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The projects should boost opportunities, awareness, collective expression or engagement with society for young people, or prompt community policy changes that promote positive youth development.
Local youth groups or individuals between the ages of 10 to 19 are eligible for grant money. Applicants need to be associated with an adult sponsor who will receive funding on their behalf.
In 2008, ACT for Youth awarded 11 mini-grants to various schools, libraries and youth-serving organizations.
