WARRENSBURG - The Warrensburg Central School Modified Girls Basketball players received special recognition Thursday during the school's sports banquet - their "A" team finished off the 2008-09 season undefeated.
The A team, which features height and athleticism, tallied a formidable 14-0 through a challenging season, Girls Basketball Coach Scott Smith said.
That's not all of the story, Smith said, praising both the A and B squads for their talents. The B team won a 39-17 victory against a tough arch-rival Lake George with only six girls showing up for the game, he said, citing the contest as the season's highlight. That victory, which followed two losses to Lake George, showed the B team's determination and drive to improve their skills, Smith said.
"All of the girls on both teams worked incredibly hard and improved tremendously throughout the season," he said.
For the A team, Sportsmanship went to Chiara Russo, Most Improved was given to Sierra Rafferty, Most Coachable, to Brittany Tschirhart and MVP to Brittany DeCrescente.
On the B team, Shelby Burkhardt won the Sportsmanship Award. Most Improved went to Alexandria Cunningham. Most Valuable Player went to Braydin Smith.
