RAY BROOK - After three public hearings, the New York State Adirondack Park Agency and the Department of Environmental Conservation announced this week that they will extend the public comment period for the comprehensive, integrated management actions proposed for the Moose River Plains Wild Forest.
The agencies determined, based on public input, that additional time is warranted for public comment. The public comment period is now extended to Sept.17.
"The comments are important to us," said Dave Winchell of the DEC. "We want to take time to hear them, respond to them and consider them."
Within the proposal are several changes to land classifications, a plan for a community connector snowmobile trail, and expansion of the West Canada Lake Wilderness, the creation of a Great Camp Special management Area and the creation of the Moose River Plains Intensive Use Camping Area.
The state land classifications proposals and minor amendments to the Master Plan were derived from a comprehensive planning effort to address the unique circumstances of the Moose River Plains area, according to the APA.
Copies of the documents are available on CD at DEC offices in Albany, Ray Brook, and Lowville. To request a copy, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 473-9518.
