PORTHENRY- Moriah Central School students attending the junior prom May 7 were offered an after-prom event.
"The students were offered the opportunity to attend a non-alcoholic after-prom party immediately following the prom at their school," said Linda Demarais, who advises the class along with Mary Ida. "The after prom party was sponsored in part by a grant from the Essex County Stop DWI Program. Entertainment was provided in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment that offered students an alternative to a potentially dangerous situation. Local businesses throughout the country donated cash to purchase prizes, gift certificates and products that were raffled off to the students.
"The MCS junior class and their advisers would like to thank all of the parents, Essex County Stop DWI, MCS faculty and the businesses for all of their donations and support," she added. "Without all of you this event would not have been possible."
