News of two murders in Rutland County, Vt., Nov. 1 has shocked local residents. The first murder occurred in downtown Rutland between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Nov. 1. The crime scene was located between the downtown Wal-Mart store and the Amtrak passenger train station. A blood stain was still visible on the parking lot several days after the incident. Rutland City Police arrived on the scene after receiving a call about a stabbing behind Wal-Mart. John Baptie, age 24, of Rutland was stabbed in the neck. Witnesses administered first-aid to Baptie until an ambulance arrived. He was pronounced dead later at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Police arrested Jonathan Bruno, age 23, a few blocks away. He was charged with second-degree murder and quickly jailed. Witnesses were reported to have told police that Baptie and Bruno knew each other and were arguing. Reports indicate the two argued over money. In the Forest Dale section of Brandon, Todd English of Forest Dale broke into Richard Griffin and Amanda Coreys house at 26 Union St. during late evening Nov. 1. He allegedly committed murder and suicide. Police said a love triangle was behind the murder-suicide. According to state investigators, Todd English of Forest Dale forced his way into unmarried couples residence. After an argument over Corey, Englishs ex-girlfriend, English shot Griffin and then turned the gun on himself.
